ok so i know it has been ages since i’ve posted. i recently joined facebook and have become completely addicted. i know it’s no excuse but…. uh that’s the way it is.
summer in osaka is SO hot. today was the hottest day in japan ever. yes, global warming IS happening. the temperature was 104 F (that’s 40 C) with 70% humidity. christ almighty. i walk 10 minutes to work and by the time i got there i really wanted to shower.
i climb mount fuji in a few days. am really looking forward to getting to the top of the mountain where it is nice and cold. it feels weird to be packing for a mountain trip – thermals, hat, scarf, gloves, etc…. when it is over 100 degrees outside.
the mountain is high enough for altitude sickness, headaches and vomitting on your way to the summit is quite common. i’m really hoping that it’s not too bad. round trip the hike is about 12 hours because we start half way up the mountain. climbing begins at 4pm, stop at a mountain hut at 9 pm, nap for a few hours then hike till dawn, watching the sun rise from the top of the mountain. it’s me versus the mountain.
