Holiday…. celebrate July 31, 2007

Hi guys, so I just got back from vacation in America. It was crazy busy but also crazy fun. I went to Florida to see my grandparents. Florida is always an interesting experience – gun shops and evangelical Christians …. apparently the two are compatible?

Back in Cali I went to see Sonic Youth play at the Berkeley Community Theatre. They played their seminal album ‘Daydream Nation’ from start to finish. It was very bitchin’.

I also went to a baseball game with my best friend. The night we went Barry Bonds was 2 home runs away from tying Hank Aaron’s home run record. But we didn’t really care. We were there for the beer and hotdogs. Yummy. We got cold during the 7th inning and left our seats to search for the indoor bar. After being unable to locate the bar, we left. Once consuming your fill of ballpark fare, the game really starts to drag on, especially when your team sucks :)

So now I’m back at work :( My next trip is climbing Mount Fuji in 3 weeks. Woohoo!

Doggie bag July 7, 2007

Filed under: Journal — notesfromosaka @ 3:47 am

I’m walking down the street yesterday and I see this really cute dachshund. Its owner has it dressed up in a little skirt thing. She is trying to get it into a dog carrier bag. The dog is having none of it, wriggling all over the place. She finally manages to shove the poor thing into the bag and zip it up all the way round, so only its head is poking out, whimpering the whole time. She then slings the bag over her shoulder, now she is ready to go shopping.

I wanted to go over there and bitch slap her. Japanese people (girls especially) seem to think that animals and babies are fashion accessories, with no idea or concern that these are actual living things. It’s like Paris Hilton exploded in this country.

Someone said to me once that Japan is where liberals come to become racist. I find myself slowly slipping into this category and it is very scary. There are just so many things about Japanese culture that are very warped and scary. Arrghhh, I need a vacation.
